Help with tactics vs different teams

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Relatively new to the Rats & GB in general and while I feel like I'm doing ok, my opponent pool has been fairly limited thus far. Looking for tactical advice on how to handle different matchups, specifically teams that want to hide the ball & win on take outs (Butchers, brewers, etc.) Can you offer any advice on how to free up that hidden ball?

Mostly by winning momentum and getting a double activation with Piper to have him go obscenely far (with 2 haunting melodies).

If you kick to a guild you think they have a good ball killing  (like oBrisket + tenderizer) , then maybe leave Bonesaw home I guess.

vGraves can sometimes get into a good ball steal position with a late Reverie to set up before next turn, but again, that probably needs you to win initiative to be reliable too.

I've  been pondering it and it seems while we do have tech to get the ball out, it is heavily reliant on winning initiative & luck. I guess the best option is to not let them get set for a ball kill in the first place.

It seems like a miasma- pelage combo could be nasty for a grouped up team with damage & conditions to multiple people, but only if Miasma  can last through the counter activation.

Would lose both of them to take outs in exchange for a take out & the ball.

While the ball is nice, and Rats do take good advantage of it - it is not everything. If the opponent plays super defensive with it, just scrum and work on the take outs and condition game for at bit. Graves and Scourge scrum well, and miasma keeps knockdowns off you. Piper is no slouch at escorting people off the pitch either.

If you get a take out or two the board rapidly starts to open up for you to advance on the ball as well.

Hi. I'm still learning the ropes with the game and started with the Ratcatchers. My question is what would a good line up be against Navigators.

I've tried most players and came to the conclusion that

Piper, Graves, Squeak and Miasma are vital but not sold on who else to use.

Pelage's passive moves were avoided by opponents and Skulks odor does nothing against the rerolls but I like the armour buff he has and the KD.

Scourge is just low DEF for a heavy hitter and got pushed around by Ebb+Horizon when up the ground with Piper.

Would Bonesaw benefit against Navs or be a liability?

Skulk is still pretty nice, odor taxes any shots, pest control can reduce distance, and lightning reflexes can let him counter even if they get a T<< of him (I.e. jogging back into fathom after she dodged away and then taking his free counter attack). Albeit he is never a complete goal stopper, he is just allround taxing and pretty self sufficient.

Would personally run go with Scourge, graves, miasma and skulk. But if you feel scourge is bullied a lot, then I would drop both scourge and miasma.

But in general it feels that both skulk and graves are great ball holders that let you control the tempo a bit to let you set up some fights with scourge and company. Navs are not fans of disease either since they often run a little light on momentum.

Bonesaw is always great if you aim for more a more goal oriented style, though I am not sure you really do want to push goals too fast against Navs.

I don't see any significant use of Pelage in the match up.

I lost in the tournament last night against them. Managed a goal but they built up a ton of momentum and just got goal after goal with Fathom and Windfinder.

Rats lost 4:12.
