S4 arrives october 12th

Recommended Posts

It's a bit strange but I don't think qualifing w/ season 3 rules and playing the tournament in season 4 is the end of the world.

Everyone will have the same amount of time to learn the new rules.

You gotta figure most of the players serious enough to qualify have model collections that can handle some buffs/nerfs within their guild.

Probably most of the qualifying people even have multiple guilds ready to go if they wanted to pivot very hard.

And from a spectator standpoint, it will be a very unsolved for meta.  Which means we might see some fresh takes and weird ideas from top teir players. It also means (barring someone finding another king thresher situation) playing your fundamentals well should still be a strong path to success.

It's weird and I like it.

This, to me as a casual player who still likes tournaments, is a big plus and the first thing I thought about when I saw the discussion start.

I think it will mean more great moments for us who just watch a couple of streamed games and read about Worlds on the forums and hear about it in the podcasts.

As someone who is due to be attending SC:UK, I'm a little disgruntled that a UK based company will be rolling out probably the biggest and most anticipated update to the game overseas..

Other than that, while I find the meta shift pre "world finals" to be an interest choice, it won't directly affect me and it is a good way to boost interest to the casual market with a massive stream event in celebration..

Regardless of the amount of changes, large or small, a top tier event with the best players in the world playing the new rules is probably the best way to release them.
Great way to get all of the worlds focused attention in a short amount of time.

Hopefully, some small teasers will have started to arrive before WTC, so we have someting to talk to that other guy about...

Why does it matter where they are located ? SC US gets Season 4 launch. SC UK gets World championship. Seems perfectly fair and remember most of their sales are US based. This is a global game.

I wish season 4 was introduced even sooner! I'm ready to see how some teams shake out with updates. There are teams that needs retooling, and some teams that need a whole scale revision on how they play. Will be interesting to see if any in game mechanics are changed. Would like to see the football killed less and passing become much more viable in the game somehow. Feel like at least in the US, the skew to beater teams has made it really hard to play some of the football teams. At the start of Season 3 which seems forever ago, goal oriented teams had a lot of play, but now it seems the opposite. The hits to Alchemist and Fisherman really hurt the two main goal heavy teams.  Not sure where Season 4 will go, but I am looking forward to it.

As its incredibly unlikely I will be participating in the world finals, I'm basically paying to go to an event where most of the "big" announcments will already have been made..

While I am still looking forward to the panels to hear about design decisions and teases for future fluff, it just kinda takes the shine off things..

I guess I was expecting US to get the major teases and then UK to get the big release party and while it technically means as a global community we get things a month earlier than expected, I am hoping we at least get to pre order the books, card sets, etc to be received that weekend..

Remember when SCUS got plenty of news as well last year? I don't think they'll have run out of announcements. Plus you'll get all 3 days to play season 4!

I'm sure the guys at SFG have something planned for the UK even if it's primarily just Godtear stuff..

Hopefully SC:US will be all the updated / reworked players and SC:UK will be the upcoming releases for early 2k19

I'd just like to be able to get the book and cards on or around the day it's released or the US:SC weekend is going to be a lot of sitting squinting at tiny print on facebook pictures..

I wish steamcons were separated by 6 months as a way to curb the us vs. them mentality, but then I'm sure there'd still be something that would result in fear of missing out complaints.

Anyway s4 is hype, I'm excited for it. I'm out!

I am pretty new but last year I watched and payed attention to each con as much as possible and it seemed more like 1 con spread over distance and time then two separate cons.

It's not about an "us vs them mentality",

It's the fact most if not all of us have been waiting for the s4 book for well over a year now and to be told we are getting the hype 2nd hand over the internet seems like a bit of a kick in the balls...

End of the day I'll get over it and as I've stated, it does mean we get to look at new things a month or so early, I'm just hoping they do a pre order which allows people to get the book in hand on the weekend of US:SC to join in the fun rather than a few weeks down the line..

So you'd rather others get the hype via the internet and that is fine. Okay..

but it would be the same if it was the reverse everyone in NA would be waiting and getting the info second hand.  I could understand a sense of ownership because Steamforged is "local" but you can't make everyone happy unless you hold one steamcon and alternate locations every year OR make it known that the major season update will release in alternating locations every year.  Either way your still getting the info + anything extra you can get at the UK Con.  I think your preorder solution would be great and I hope that it would be offered to NA players if the situation was reversed.

There is no point discussing or arguing this as you guys are getting "the thing" so you are obviously happy about the result, at the same time I can't help but feel like the players in Europe (and elsewhere) are getting overlooked..

I know there would be people missing out on the live reveal regardless of which country this is in, you just need to think of the poor Auzzies, they live in the future and won't even get these reveals till a day late..

It should be available to everyone regardless of their location of the Steamcon location, like even the players in the US should be able to pre order the book for delivery on the day of the reveal as I'm assuming ever US player can't attend the US Steamcon..

Absolutely agree that it would be cool for it to be available.  Especially since I am Canadian and we don't have a Steamcon haha.

I'm not getting anything. I live in Canada. I will be watching the stream same as last year. You assume that you are somehow gonna miss out. That isn't accurate.

Okay, let me attempt to explain this another way..

The Season 2 book release at Salute, I pre ordered it, made sure I was near the front of the line and then rushed to pick up my order so I could read through the rules with a coffee before venturing around the rest of the event..

The Season 3 card updates at the first Steamcon was great as everyone got to open their new boxes of cards and gathered in huddles discussing all the new player changes and potential combos..

The S3 book release was "spoiled" a little as most of the Farmers had already been seen at that point and a couple of people got their books delivered the day before and posted stuff all over Facebook..

Last years Steamcon didn't have many "big reveals" other than a couple of Blacksmiths cards and although the Rookie League was fun and all the panels were great, it didn't seem as hype as previous events..

Now with a whole season worth of updated cards and potential new players being revealed in one book I'm not going to be in the correct country for it, I can't even fly over to experience it first hand due to work related things I can't mention because I'm heavily under NDA (if you like pc/console gaming, watch E3)

I know the guys at SFG will work their arse off to make the UK Steamcon a blast, I am well aware that I am acting a little selfish regarding my opinion of this but I can't help but feel like a child who has woken up on Christmas day to find his parents already build his Lego castles and set it our for him under the tree..

Yes, it can be rebuilt after the fact and the experience should be just as good, however it just won't be the same..

Download it on the Monday same as everyone else in the world who cannot make it. Same as we had to do for Season 3.

Mate, you shouldn't disrespect the special relationship. Said relationship means that, every so often, we should extend the hand of friendship and allow our brothers across the pond to have the new toys first. :)
