Fishermen vs Morticians

Recommended Posts

Played a game of Fishermen vs Morticians.  I've got the highlights written down.  We were playing Obulus' Laid to Ruin incorrectly, in that Obulus got to pick the play instead of just the column (at least we were assuming we were playing it wrong, because it was a beyond absurd level if tanking when he could pick)

Morticians won the roll, decided to kick.  They kicked it to mid-field in the hopes of dragging in the model that retrieved the ball.

Shark used Quickfoot to advance and fallback a bit, then used Tidal Surge to get back enough to not be pulled into a beat down by Puppet Master.  Passed the ball to Siren.

Cosette makes a mistake and walked too far forward.  Siren seduced lured her in.  Greyscale hits Cosette to start her off with a 4 damage hit.  Kraken finishes her with an 8 damage hit.  Kraken bricks a harpoon into Silence.

Siren baits Obulus in to steal the ball from her with Puppet Master by forcing her to kick it to Silence.  Fishermen had made a calculated ploy to either advance down the field with the ball on Siren for a score attempt, or to draw in Obulus too close with Beautiful.  Siren then Seduces Obulus into sprinting into The fisherman killzone and her melee range.  Angel moves around Obulus to use Siren as a backstop to stop him from getting away by forcing a push play, he forces her to super shot herself.  Shark moves in to attack Obulus, using Angel as a backstop, Obulus forces him to Tidal Surge so he moves Kraken to block access to Angel from the Morticians as well as engage Obulus for an extra TAC.  Next attack is forced into a Tidal Surge, and Shark used that to re-position himself a bit.

Silence moves towards the goal and kicks the ball to Graves.

Kraken goes first and tries to damage Obulus (5 base, + 1 Just Listen, + 4 siren/shark/greyscale/angel).  Obulus forces him to Harpoon twice.  Obulus decides to take the 3 damage on the last attack because he doesn't want to give any more Momentum.  Obulus Shadow Likes out of melee range, uses Puppet Master to have Kraken knock Angel down, then sprints away.  Siren Seduces Obulus into sprinting back into the kill zone.  Angel spends a Momentum to stand up and attack Obulus, is forced to Super Shot herself, and gets like 1 or 2 damage on Obulus.  Greyscale attacks Obulus, starts doing damage as Obulus decides to take damage instead of getting KDed or picking a Haloed box.  Shark goes, attacks Obulus some more, forced to Tidal Surge so moves Salt out of melee with Ghast where Salt had been getting in his way but was pretty hurt.  Gets several 3 damage hits because of there only being a 4 damage play in column 4.  Obulus goes down.  Took sooooooooooooooooo many attacks that we re-look at Obulus' card and realize that either he is completely broken or Obulus picks the column and the attacker picks the play.

Graves passes the ball to Silence, Silence uses the MP to advance, Silence kicks the ball for a goal on his activation.  Fishermen kick the ball on the other side of their mob.  Salt uses a MP to stand and fetch the ball and ending his movement so as to keep the ball away from any of the Morticians.

Shark, Greyscale, Angel, and Kraken move up to engage Ghast.  Ghast's +1 INF on first attack proves to make him very hard to kill.  Ghast ends up only knocking down Shark.  Siren then moves up and uses Lure to kill him with a Parting Blows from Kraken, Greyscale, and Angel.

Salt takes the ball and runs back towards the Fishermen table edge, putting the mob of Fishermen between him and the remaining morticians.

Game is called when it is obvious that the Morticians can't catch salt, and can't fight their way through the entire Fishermen team

Obulus is brokenly tough, but he can only pick the column, not the ability (I think).

That said, I would have never have though to try and beat up the morticians using the fishermen.

Poor Cosette. She's really not faring very well in all these playtest reports is she? everyone seems to get her killed off really early which either means that she's extremely fragile or they haven't worked out how to use her propperly yet.

For the record I haven't worked out how to use her "properly" either :P.

I'm pretty certain Obulus only gets to pick the column.

Cosette is a glass cannon.  She just got greedy with an ill-advised lure.

Previous two games had her doing tons of damage and generating a ton of momentum.  She just needs to have a nice little pocket to hide in and pop out with a furious charge.

Fishermen have a ways to get around Obulus.  Siren has Beautiful to drastically reduce his threat range, or if you move the ball around with an incompetent kicker like salt it makes it hard for him to force you to get rid of the ball since you have the next activation to retrieve the ball, and the rest of the turn to score with it since Obulus is out of the equation.

Once the ball is in position, you activate the player that is going to go for the goal and have them snap the ball to them as they move in to make the goal kick.

edit: you can also block his LOS to the ball carrier.  Alternating activations really clamps down on the 'gotcha' moves like making a hole to get LOS to a target, since the target just moves once they see the hole being made.
