  1. Butchers are my current go-to team. With the full roster to choose from, I always struggle to narrow it down to a tournament 10, and even moreso with Vet. Gutter on the horizon (played her in a friendly last night, ooft!). I know there's a few topics floating around on this, but I think there's scope for a Boiler-less 10-player roster - but does that mean no Princess as well? Pre-Veteran Gutter, I'm looking at: Ox, Fillet (my preferred Captain), Truffles/Princess (single mascot preferred), Meathook, Shank, Boar, Tenderiser, Vet. Ox, Brisket, Vet. Brisket Shank, Meathook & a Brisket provide goal threat under either captain Tenderiser comes in against Football teams other than Fish. Boar does Boar things, but possibly means I need Vet. Brisket for 'Quick Time' Meathook provides the bit of damage-buff that Boiler would have brought. So mascot choice? Princess makes a nice place to park the ball, and 'Loved Creature' can make some players scared to hit her, but Truffles gives that early KD, Sturdy, ... without Boiler, does the pig make the 10? Or is it just daft to go for a 10 without the crutch-pair?? Post Vet. Gutter, the 10 probably loses a Brisket, but not sure which one...
  2. So I have been playing Blacksmiths on and off since they came out and have only really had success with Ferrite as captain (although it has been very successful). So I have began to wonder what captains you would drop into different guilds. I feel like Morts could be Burnish and 2-2 or 4-1 Alchs -Ferrite or Furnace Masons- ? Ferrite Mirror- Ferrite Butchers- Ferrite/ Burnish Union- Burnish? Brewers- Ferrite Ratcatchers- Ferrite Engineers- ? Burnish? Hunters- Ferrite/ Burnish? Farmers- Ferrite That is just my take, let me know if you agree or disagree and why. I'd love to change from my Ferrite only ways but would like some direction from a competitive point of view.

Just wanted to get a community feel for the pro/ cons for bringing only Vet rage as the captain and running an interchangeable 8 man roster. I can play brisket or blackheart but don't know if it is worth that extra slot. Rage, Turtle gutter, decimate, mist, benediction, harry, minx, hemlock, (grace/ snakeskin, A&G) Thanks guys!

  10. Kick 2017 Out With Style

    until
Be one of 8 people to register for an end of year tournament at Turn 4 Hobbytown. This is a hard limit of 8 players, since we'll only have time for three rounds. However, if we fill all 8 slots before the day of the tournament, I will personally raffle off a 6-man starter team from what the store has available. The $15 entry fees will be used as a prize pool: 30 dollars of store credit to first place, 20 dollars for second place and 10 dollars for third place (assuming 8 participants). I'll be using Longshanks for pairings and tracking placement ( http://longshanks.org/events/?event=635) and participation will count towards the Captain Con Cup. This event will follow the standard Regional Cup guidelines as listed in the November 2017 Regional Cup Organized Play Rules - painted miniatures, 10-man rosters.
  11. Blacksmith tourny 10

So I have been known to jump around guilds and finding new and challenging things to do. I have now set my sights on Blacksmiths. I enjoy playing competitively and would like several opinions on who you think should be left out and why. For me, I plan on leaving Anvil and Sledge at home for a few reasons. I really think the 2-2 or 3-0 game is the most optimal for BS's. Anvil and Sledge have only a few ways to help in the footballing aspect (While the iron, early tackle, long bomb pass) but, they are much more for the brawl. Furnace is picked (made captain?) when you are looking for a 2-2 game. Hearth and Alloy seem to make the team every time. Ferrite is typically captain for goal scoring abilities. Major toolbox that is hard to leave home Iron works well with her and has the same toolbox to work with. Cast over cinder if looking for a 2-2 game. Bolt and Farris look very interesting, "free" im open seems very useful after a free jog for positioning. Also shoemerang is a thing. All in all, a very difficult drafting selection and would love to hear what you lovely people think about selection and why you pick certain models. Cheers!

  16. Hey Hunters! Started guildball with Skatha box + Seenah and Chaska at Salute. Played maybe six games or so with just them Just completed my hunters with the mystery box Played one game swapping Chaska for Egret and another swapping Ulfr for Jaecar as well. Currently getting a game in every week Doing relatively well so far, but we're all new players at a very friendly, social, non-competitive club. Got a friendly team tournament in another meta, early November and expecting a steep learning curve. Not expecting anything from my first tourney of course, but want to prep to do my best! So far my tactics seem to be moving towards holding central defense/midfield with Vet Hearne/Seenah. Using them as beat sticks for takeouts. The others for movement /distraction /assists and scoring (usually Skatha) Won my last game with 2 takeouts 2 goals and generally finding scoring more effective in my little meta! Immediate advice I could use is what union it's worth buying to use in my 10? None? Just Minx? Are the others worth a look? Obviously I'm gonna have limited practise time between now and the tourney and I still haven't played a game with Theron yet, so I need to focus my time and money with potential union picks! Also just any other advice that might be handy going into the tourney would be much appreciated Thanks for reading this far!

  20. I'm trying to work out a strong vetRage & Blackheart roster to play into the new meta and in preparation for a steamcon qualifier. I know that the "ideal" or "most effective" is all subjective and of course very dependant on player skill. But since currently my playtime is limited and I have an abundance of dojo and solo vassal time, I figured I'd put my thoughts out to the community. We all know Rage is a support beater monster but I've been having some good success with Blackhearts strong 2-2 game. He's a solid beater/striker switch captain that can really spread his team out to skirt around teams that want to scrum or teams like Smoke who can really punish clumped players. With all being said, below are my thoughts on a roster: vetRage Blackheart Strongbox: he's amazing with vetRage and not terrible with blackheart Mist: one of the best non-captain kickoff pressures out there Benediction: Reach, survivability, momentous pushes and solthecian are great for either captain. Rage loves having a model to reliably disengage him and impart wisdom is great for red fury. Gutter: Reliable momentous damage, amazing wrap potential with bloody Coin and crowdouts, and chain grab helps to control teams that try to spread way out against vetRage. Rage: helps Blackhearts 2-2 game with reliable momentous damage, inf efficiency and condition damage. Tooled up on blackheart nearly brings him back to season 2 level of beat down. Benediction (and/or Harry) can help to reliably disengage rage. Minx: great for both captains. Very efficient, fast, snare on damage and can score/retrieve the ball decently. Slightly squishy. 2 FLEX SPOTS Snakeskin: one of the best ball killers in the game. Shark (and midas I suppose) is weakened but is still strong into vetRage. Snakeskin can buy vetRage a turn or two each time shark scores for the beat down to continue (albeit at a cost of 3inf). She's also a decent piece in footballing teams and can tank a lot of hits against male. Harry: still has his aura, which is great for receiving, and is still great at pushing and decent at knocking down. Although he competes with Benediction for this role, redundancy in pushing and knock downs is not a bad thing in some matchups. Harry Stil has strong control with character plays, and rising anger + counter attack threat helps to dissuade attacking Avarisse & Greede: the new hotness, always liking playing with new toys. Can put out absurd damage, tho very influence hungry to keep Greede safe. Since Avarisse never wants to charge, this pair is very slow. I see their potential with practice, but with Canadian championships coming up soon I worry I don't have the time to figure them out well enough. Hemlocke: with midas sad, smoke might make a comeback, I've heard this is happening in the Chicago meta. In that case smelling salts become very useful. Even in other matchups like masons, blind is very strong and noxious blast is always solid. Never will 1-2inf be wasted on her. Still very squishy tho. Coin: might be a better mascot in a blackheart team that wants to spread out compared to the slow speed and area of effect for the turtle. Those are my thoughts, what do you guys think? I'm pretty set on the first 8, trying to decide on the last two mostly (leaning towards snakeskin for 1 of then). Tho I am of course open to suggestion.
