[Fan Fic] Life of Bribe the Watchman

#1 Bribe stood watch. Or rather, he stood there watching. It was a lazy day in Lang. The sun crept slowly along the sky, making the streets unbearably hot. The rich left for the mountains, the poor sweated, stank and waited for the evening to come. The ghost hours of summer have come and it was a good time to earn some extra coins. A fellow watchman passed by, followed by a huge pig of a man. Bribe felt a sudden urge to kick the bastard, but you couldn’t just go around kicking the wealthy. He wondered what urgent business made the man drag his fat ass outside in the heat. It was too early for a matter of lust, so it must have been a matter of gold. Another guard wandered around the corner. That's how things were in Raedland since the war. A whole lotta watchmen and a whole lotta less opportunity for crime. That's what made a bribable fellow worth a whole lotta more. You know, the law of supply and demand. But don’t you think Bribe was one of your average corrupt guards. Oh no. He was very proud of his moral compass and only allowed thieves to steal from the filthy rich. Those bastards couldn't have earned all that money the right way anyway, so it was only fair they gave some back. Would be pretty stupid, if he didn’t get a part of it too, right? An involuntary smile crossed his face when he thought of the fattening purse in his little hideout. A pair of footsteps echoed in the narrow alley behind him. Finally. »G'day Mr. Watchman. How are ya?« »Good, good. And you? All good?« Bribe did his best to sound very official and bored. Just in case someone was listening. »All good, all good. Thanks for keepin' an eye out and keepin’ us safe. Have a nice day!« The deed was done and it was high time to continue his patrolling. Only half an hour more and he’d be off duty. He sped towards the barracks, leaving the scorching white cobblestones of the Noble Quarter behind him. The good old Swinging Bridge grew larger with every step and soon the familiar stench of unwise petty thieves filled the heat around him. Just far enough not to bother the spoiled nostrils of the upper class, but close enough to remind anyone with shady intentions it pays to bribe a guard before they do anything stupid. He spotted an empty can and his eyes lit up. He took two quick steps, swung his leg and sent it flying into the center lamp post. Another goal for Bribe! You see, Bribe wasn’t just a Watchman. He was also a second year player of the Watch Guild and he found himself liking the violent game of Guild Ball more and more. Well, the game and the opportunities it brought. Of course he had dreams of grandeur, but his… other arrangements kept interfering. He was known to make a blunder every now and then. Calculated blunders, mind you. Those blunders paid off and luckily, he was simply too good to be kicked from the team. Raedland gave the Empire of the Free Cities more than its fair share of Guild Ball stars. There was the pretty boy, Flint, who never missed a shot. Well, almost. There was the big loud scumbag Hammer. As good as he was arrogant. There was Spigot. They said he was a genius when he could stay sober. Bribe wouldn’t know, he’s never seen him that way. There were Graves, Colossus, Theron and others. But stardom and wealth were surely not in the stars for a boy who got his name by being given away as a bribe. Dreams were nice and all, but they didn’t pay for a bed, a meal, a woman. Fellows with big dreams also had a tendency to end up in the gutter or so it seemed. Better to stay real and think about the plan for tomorrow. Old Graves was coming back to his homeland and he was bringing the Ratcatchers team with him. The Watch officials decided it would be fun to host an exhibition game against this sick scum of a team. In their last game, half of the opposing team started puking blood in the middle of the game. Always a crowd pleaser, puking blood, isn’t it? Bribe didn’t fancy playing against them one bit. But he got a job to do. A big one. Won’t bring him any closer to the Big League, but it will get him a hefty bag of coins. What more can a lad ask for? Who knows, it might even change a thing or two for once. Can’t let an opportunity like that slip by.
  2. The blog post regarding rookie models says: "In addition to being able to use these models and cards during a Rookie League at your local store or club, these Rookie models can also be used during Guild Ball events as alternate sculpts for their normal models." Does this mean it can be used as vet Chisel too or just the original Chisel? If I remember correctly, alt Rage can be used as both oRage and vRage. Thanks!

    Falconers Delayed until 3rd Aug

Does this mean alt Mataagi is not tournament legal until August 3rd?

Vassal 7.88, Devana, trap and card fixes

Can't wait to start testing Falconers. Any ideas when they'll be up? Sorry, I'm really excited.

    Let's start taking tactics

The theme of the rule implies to me that Taking Flight is a running start/a take off. So he's running first and once he gains enough momentum he takes off/jumps into the air and starts flying. Other way around would mean that he simply jumps into the air and starts flying into X direction. According to the rules he can do that, but if anything that seqeunce of effects seems weird. Unless he starts flapping his wings so hard he just takes off vertically. If so Ikaros in one strong dude and both ways make sense.

    Let's start taking tactics

Why? It's the same with two simultaneous playbook results.

Hm, does Ikaros gains Flying at the beginning of his Take Flight jog? Also Updraft doesn't make much sense fluff-wise as it only affects Ikaros when he's on the ground. Great read btw. I think Falconers might also prove to be a deceptively footbally team. Devana can retrieve the ball fairly reliably with Death From Above and get her to wherever the team needs it, Maatagi can do it with some setup and Hotshop and Ikaros has a way around unpredictable movement and similar tech. I can't wait to test them, they seem like a team that wants to constantly pressure the opponent as they probably won't like long grindy games.

    What to do with Hammer?

Minor guilds only get +1 to a kick/receive roll.
  9. 1) What makes you subscribe to a youtube channel? The feeling I'm learning something new/that the content is useful. "Oh, I haven't thought about that," moments and whatnot. Having fun while watching is also a neat bonus.2) What are the most important things to you in regards to battle reports? Good commentary that explains the mistakes and better options (pretty much what Curkov does :)). A fast forward also helps. Doesn't need to be 20 minutes, but your regular 1h30min match is a bit long.

If I am not mistaken, there is a turn1 walkthrough from Aaron in his Singled Out episode. Not sure when, but it's there. It would also make for a good post of course.

3 toughest matchups for hunters in your opinion and how you deal with them?

Congrats! Awesome read as always. The last game was great, seems lie you did excellent job positioning at the start Nice to see what hunters are capable of!
  15. Hi guys, quick question - which player Union player would you pick if A&G aren't available for Corsair? Gutter seems like an ok damage dealer who can also be a goal threat if needed. However Scything blow doesn't really mesh well with ganging up. Fangtooth can deal a lot of (non-momentous) damage, but his impact on friendly players (foul odour, fangtooth unleashed) is pretty bad for ganging up. Other models just don't do enough damage. I'm asking this because it's really tough to get A&G without buying the whole box. It's easier to get other options.
  16. I might have found A&G afterall. I guess he is still the #1 union pick for corsair in most cases right?
  17. Hi guys, I'm a new hunters player. As there are no other hunters players around I though I'd open a thread where I can write down the stuff I come up with and hopefully sparkk a discussion, exchange ideas, learn about the game etc. I've played a few games with Theron, made some horrible mistakes, but also some really fun plays. I'm going to try Skatha next and I would love some help/opinions about the team I have in mind. The goal is to have a versatile squad that can go 2/2 or even 1/4. So, what I was thinking: Skatha - team's main goal threat and a versatile supporter when someone needs some extra MOV, a dodge or a couple od push dodges to reach the goal/victim vHearne + Chaska - control the middle, Hearne KD's folk, Chaska pushes them around (either playbook or boombox), Hearne can last light Chaska of course, Chasha can toughen one of them up, they both benefit from rough ground if they can lure the enemy there, they can both often enemies up, snare them and get them in place for Jaecar or another damage dealer, Chaska can also control the field a bit with his traps. It seems to me that these two guy can play really well together. Jaecar - probably no need to explain. Can take out models, can control key players (g&s, trap), can threaten a goal. Now this is where I'm not sure who to pick for the last two spots. I'll probably go with snow as I think he can really help Hearne and Chacka if he stays close by. He can help them get out of rough situations and apply anatomical if needed. His T on 1 also helps. Fahad on the other hand can get me some extra damage as there are still going to be plenty of snared players around. I'm really undecided about the last player spot. I'm not sure if I need another striker to threaten the goal or if Skatha+Jaecar+occasionally vHearne/Chaska (with Skatha's help) are enough. Ulfr seems like he wants to be alone on one wing, but I think I need a few more games before including him and he seems really situational to me. Egret can put some pressure on opposing team with flurry and wait for the chance to get the goal. There's also Minx who's not a striker per se, but is fast, can deal damage and is a bit harder to tie up with Skatha around I think. However, it also seems vHearne+Chaska can really help Sennah with her target, Skatha can extend her threat range and Snow can help her get out of a scrum. Chaska can also help with that or make her a bit tougher. Of course that means that I'd be running an 11 inf team with some pretty inf hungry models. That's what I'm worried about with Sennah. What do you guys think? Am I missing something crucial? I know in GB choosing players can really depend on your opponent, but still... any opinions would be appreciated.
  18. Quick question Who would you take for a bit of board control in a line up of Skatha, Fahad, Jaecar, Minx, Ulfr? vHearne seems like the most independent model, oHearne with his 1 inf Single Out+Heroic+Skewered seems like a perfect piece to set up those few take out you might need and Chaska is just really mobile, can lay traps and most importantly threaten the wingers or players attacking your wingers. He can go up to a 14" move without too many difficulties and push players over the edge if the opponent is not careful. Going to my first tournament this Sunday and of course overthinking some combinations.

    Falconers!

Where can I find pictures/names? Yes, I'm a very bad information hunter.
  21. I played 2 games during the weekend. The first one was Theron, Fahad, Jaecar, Hearne, Minx, Egret against kick off masons. My friend is still learning the game so we played without time restrictions. That was a big mistake as the game took 4,5 hours (slow masons, hunter controlled the field and he had a lot of tough decision to make). I saw the potential of this lineup, but the game stopped being fun after a while. Definitely have to use a timer next time. The other games was Skatha, Fahad, Minx, Jaecar, vHearne and Chasha agains Blackheart, Strongbox, Gutter, Mist, Rage and Gutter (would be Minx, but I was actually using his Minx miniature). I clocked out but still managed to win 15-10. I was receiving but didn't manage to hide the ball from mist (made a mistake when positioning Chaska after a successful pass). He went for a quick goal, but missed with Mist. I took him out with vHearne and Chaska. 2-0 I tried to make things difficult for him by placing traps around the barrier in the middle. At one point vHearne didn't manage to KD Blackheart with 3 attacks. I don't remember how I lost the ball after the missed goal, but I know he scored first with Blackheart (turn 2 I think). I scored with Skatha on my next activation. In the meantime he took out Minx and later vHearne and I took out Rage with Jaecar and Fahad. He took the ball on the wing with Gutter and Mist. He made a mistake with Mist because he forgot she's half dead. I took her out with Chaska (boom box baby!). I timed out during this activation. Granted, if this was a tournament he could simply put the ball somewhere far away and stall and made it much more difficult to me t win (still not impossible). The ball scattered off the field and then into a good position for me in the middle. I too out Strongbox with Fahad, which was a mistake. I went first on the next turn and loaded up Skatha. Strongbox would be a perfect momentum generator, but he wasn't there anymore. Fortunately I succeeded in passing the snowball and then scored with Skatha to end the game. I really enjoyed this games, the team was extremely fun and seemed pretty flexible. Skatha was great, Fahas was awesome and dealt 6 damage (2x momentus) for free twice, Jaecar did his job, Hearne was ok, did some damage, but didn't manage to KD Blackheart, Minx was fine and Chaska was a boss.
  22. Ah okay, so in this case do you play him over Egret because of Where'd they go and it's harder to tie him up?
  23. There's an idea for a blog post if you ever need one: Ulfr. It seems like a lot of players are struggling with him. I still have to try him out.
  24. That's right, my bad. Luckily we play it right, it was just a brain fart. I think you're missing the 6th player in your Skatha lineup or is it so good that you don't need one? Good on Sunday and snare some ass.
