    Hammer Character Plays

Yes, influence stays on players after activating so Hammer can take it. In a similar way, if Honour uses Superior Strategy the player can use their leftover influence on their second activation.

@Vantskruv welcome to the vast and confusing world of painting To get started, I’d suggest keeping it simple - some spray primer, probably in black (GW primer is actually pretty good I think). Then a few basic colours - there’s a lot of choice, but for those starting out I’d say either GW or Vallejo Game Colour - Vallejo Model Colour is a bit more fiddly to use. Pick yourself up a flesh colour, a metal colour (probably silver/steel), yellow for some of their hair, black is always useful (as is white). Probably worth grabbing a leathery brown too. After that it’s down to whatever colours you want to use for the teams - maybe blue for the masons, and a khaki/olive for the brewers? Also grab a couple of brushes, maybe a size 1 and 2 (or a basecoat and detail brush, depending on where you get them). Good brushes are quite important when you start - while you don’t need to spend lots on top end brushes, make sure you get model painting brushes rather than cheap craft shop ones that will make your life harder. It also depends on how much work you want to put in, but it can be worth getting a hobby knife to scrape the mould lines off the models carefully. It’s tiresome and fiddly but it does help the models look nice. For painting itself, give the models a quick scrub in cool soapy water with an old toothbrush, rinse them, and let them dry - that helps the primer stick. Spray them black (several thin coats rather than one thick one, it’s easy to clog the details if you put too much on), and let that dry fully before you move on. Focus on putting on smooth, thin blocks of colour at first - keeping it neat and not overloading the model with paint is the important bit. You may want to thin your paints a bit to help them flow, but that also means you may need two coats to get proper paint coverage. If you get the hang of that easily, then you can always grab a brown and a black wash (or make one by diluting black paint with plenty of water and a tiny dab of washing up liquid, but it’s probably easier to buy one) and gently use that to give the areas more definition. Brown wash on the skin, black on almost everything else, but feel free to change that up and see what works for you. Then take some photos and post them up so we can see how you did and offer advice and support Any questions before you start or during painting, there’s usually someone on here who can answer them so ask away!

    An Issue with Morticians

I don't normally go into wish listing threads as the chances your wishes are granted are slim to nil. The team on the whole seems great and are easily my favourite to play, I've had reasonably good success with the vast majority of models barring the two below. Bonesaw - I'd have loved it if Offensive Defence was just activated when he was in the opponents half of the pitch. Meditation would be useful if it was just for the next kick (including outside of activation), I find I often would like to set up snapshots with Morts but a 3/8" is not really great for that. Hes not bad but usually just second fiddle to the much more reliable Mist. Vet Graves - seems like he just doesn't do too much at all. His playbook would be ace if he was tac one higher like original graves (though I do really like the Vindictive Human idea above). I don't know why the strength boost to Vileswarm is a Heroic rather than a trait.

I don't know how accessible it is for you but if you have an LGS or even a Warhammer store nearby, they often do hobby classes and I can't recommend them enough. Of course some of us (myself included) live in the boondocks (or BFE if you prefer) so that's not really an option, but getting immediate feedback as you paint up your first (or second, or third, or thousandth) miniature can sometimes be much better than trying to capture your art in photography (which is a black art if you ask me).

    Morticians Gameplan

I actually had a lot of luck with both Casket and Ghast. They are two bruisers that take a lot to get through, and you really can't afford to take parting blows from Ghast. Those two were such resource sinks for my opponents that I could focus on the rest of my gameplan. Give it a shot

    Morticians Gameplan

Ghost Shot works with 'friendly guild' only and that's like 2,2" extra range that takes BS just over 18" of goal threat. And those 2" extra are a deal breaker for me, cause his playbook is far superior to Mists one and Meditate makes him super reliable (u can even reroll succesful dice looking for a screamer ). If You have GIC AND you can score T1 - BS is a way to go. In other cases just go with Mist Obulus with 3-4 hp left after mis meeting with Corsair will not be as cocky as before He will have to stay out of action and heal up and he usualy does the heavy lifting - without him stacked with inf Spooks are just a bunch of weaklings Take a close look at Skulk, for me he looks like solid support for Graves and Ferryman.

    2. How are you using the GIC? And what specifically makes him better with it? I only play GIC anymore. 3. Yeah, definitely a glass cannon. Makes sense. I accidentally killed her with Thresher once. 4. That's a great point. 6. See, I hate Obulus from a Brewer perspective. Good Ol' Jakes Tapper could kill him, but not anymore. Hooper only comes in my 10 anymore because Obulus exists, because otherwise, Pint Pot and Stoker both outclass Hooper by miles. Corsair, I can understand being an issue, but even then, I don't feel like either Corsair or Tapper can one-round him without a lot of help, and a lot of help is a lot of opportunities to disrupt.

Heads down merchant: gives a movement buff if you've got the ball, but has to be in a straight line. Diving header: model can make a 2" or 4" dodge before making a snapshot, but then suffers KD. Scissor kick. Ignore penalties for being engaged when making a snapshot.then suffer KD (I like to see goalscorers knocking themselves downn apparently)

    Morticians Gameplan

Obulus, Dirge and Graves are must-have for me. I'd rather take Bonesaw over Mist if there are GIC allowed - Ghost Shot makes him far better. Cosset is fine if You feel like your team hits harder than opposing one, which is scarce With 12hp, 4+/0, no defensive tech and crazy she dies instantly. Casket Time is solid if you're sure You can catch enemy striker after he shots - so no Knee Slider in enemy hand, no access Second Wind. It's huge tempo swing. The reason I rarely take Ghast is his 1 influence and 4"/7" mov. This team is not efficent (and control eats a lot of resource not realy gaining any VP or MP) so You need that 13-14 to do Your things. And I find Casket more valuable, provided You put someone in the box. Obulus is not super-strong anymore. He's sneaky, slippery and hard to play against but he's uneffecicent damage dealer, poor footballer and, if enemy has a way around his UM and low KD, dies easily. Tapper&Hooper duo just stomps him Corsair is his nightmare.

Rage2 and Blackheart are considered the best of the 3 captains, but I'm more comfortable with Brisket3 myself. I'll take B3, Rage2 and Strongbox for starters. I like Coin a lot, and I think he's better for Brisket3 than Strongbox is, but I think it's more important to have more player options than a mascot option. And Strongbox does more for a Brisket3 team than many mascots for any team, so I'm ok with it. Rage2 is your killer. He goes into teams that want to play the ball. IMO, he requires Gutter and Benediction. Gutter's a murderer with him and Red Fury and her and him can get a Takeout apiece every turn if they'd like. Benediction does the pushes. Another great Red Fury target to position models or clear Rage up before he annihilates things. He's also very good at holding the ball, and Sturdy's a great thing to be able to hand out. Plus, Benny can act like an arc node with his "impart wisdom" trait, giving Rage2's "Red Fury" ability an 8'' range instead of just 4''. This is an amazing ability that guarantees Benny a spot in every Rage2 list, IMO. Brisket3 wants Harry really bad. Harry provides the free dodges from kicks, has some great pushes, and brings some control to a team that doesn't really want to fight. Both Captains want Mist available, and Brisket3 specifically needs him. He's a great target for "I'm Open" and he's extremely good around Brisket3 because she's a solthecian so he gets that dodge. This is true in a Rage2 list that brings Benediction as well. So that's Rage2, Brisket3, Strongbox, Gutter, Benediction, Harry the Hat, Mist. Three left. Decimate is a solid option. She brings a great toolbox with debuffs, she ignores an ARM, and she's got the kicking stats that Brisket3 wants. If I don't absolutely need 2'' melee in a Brisket3 list, Decimate is the girl I bring. I've been known to bring both Gutter and Decimate, but I don't do that a lot. Minx is solid in a Rage2 list. She brings INF and doesn't need it back. She loves the heroics and really is just a nice supporting random murderer. I like her in my Rage2 lists instead of both Gutter and Decimate. Usually one of those, Minx, Benediction, Mist and Strongbox. If I'm going all in on killing, I'll push Mist out and put in whichever Gutter or Decimate I didn't use. Rage1 has been in my roster for a long time as a random damage dealer in a Brisket3 list I want to go 2-2 with (2 kills, 2 goals). If he can't get a charge off, he can still Tool Up Brisket3 who can do work with 6INF and Momentous 3 on column 3 with TAC5. Get a crowd out or two, and Brisket's perfectly capable of taking down targets. I actually like this a lot into Masons where Brisket3 can be counted on to kill Flint if she can get a crowd out or two or the vengeance token from the plot card. However, I'm starting to think about dropping him for either Grace or Hemlock. Grace makes things faster, helps healing rates and is another Solthecian for Mist. Not a bad addition in any case. Hemlock has Blind and decent kick stats, plus some condition removal. It's blind that really interests me. Some of these powerhouse melee monsters don't really like blind.

    Make Brewers better

The problem with Brewers is they are behind the power curve, for what they're designed to do. Their main issue is order of activation. At best, they can eliminate 1 character, reliably, per turn acting in concert with other characters on their team. I'm still not of the opinion, without excellent rolls, that any one Brewer can just simply take-out a figure by themselves. Now, against a football team...this means they lose the points race. And even against a team that likes to go 2-2, they still lose. They do need to bump up, either in the kicking game or take-out role. It doesn't need to be ridiculous, just a slight tilt one way or the other. I get the whole GIC theory of balancing, but I think the problem needs to be resolved on a model by model basis instead of some global bump.

    Farmers, Farmers, Farmers...

Took my Skatha lineup to a LGS last night, feeling good. Seenah had just shown up and was ready to roll. I met a buddy of mine, playing Farmers, and we had agreed to play a match. He warned me ahead of time about the Harvest Markers, Windle, and just how non fun it can be to play against them, plus he's a very good player. Bah, I shook it off. Hunters Skatha Fahad VHearne Jaecar Ulfr Seenah Farmers Grange Peck Windle Jackstraw Harrow Bushel Did I mention he also plays Hunters? He also plays Hunters. I kick off with Seenah, and basically move my team trying to stay away from Windle and Grange. He scores an early TO on VHearne, which was my fault for engaging him with Windle, and Jackstraw. I left Hearne hanging out by Seenah, Hearne paid the price. Windle is no joke. 2-0 I actually score on my first turn with some nice play by Skatha and Jaecar. Jaecar is just a flippin house, that guy can pretty much do it all. He turned Bushel into a punching bag numerous times. Yeah, he's hitting a girl, a FARM Girl, she's tougher than she looks. 4-2 Stayed this way for a bit, mostly punching back and forth, jockeying for position. One thing I learned too late in the game is to charge/run over the Harvest markers. This was lack of knowledge of the FArmers. I won't make that mistake again...probably dawned on me the turn he had 16 influence to divvy up. My opponent takes out Seenah next, with yeah, you guessed it, Windle. That guy. I had him and Seenah just brawling in the center of the pitch. Berserk is real, real dangerous. I wasn't too bummed tho, Seenah had done tremendous damage to Windle before it was TO. 4-4 He positioned Jackstraw on my end with the Fart Cloud and the ball. My team is on his end of the pitch trying to score, and keep distance away from Grange. Turn ends. Seenah comes back in and promptly shreds JackStraw, gets the ball, and boots it up the pitch. I actually end up getting the ball all the way down the pitch to Jaecar, who's milling around the Farmer's goal. He gets another sweet goal. 8-4. I like this team, and where it's going. He ends up getting the ball back down the pitch with some great ball movement, and scores with JackStraw. 8-8 I take heed and work the ball up the left side of the pitch where Skatha is. I am looking to seal the deal with a 3rd goal, but plans go awry as he takes Ulfr out with Grange and Bushel. I have not figured out Ulfr yet. I leave him out on his island, he dies. I bring him into the fray, he dies. It seems he needs that 3rd or even 4th INF, but then Jaecar seems to need that 4 INF each turn as well. Perhaps fielding them both is not a good idea. Egret perhaps? 8-10 In the meantime I have run Fahad over two harvest markers. I steal the ball with Jaecar, and boot it over to Skatha. She's on the left of the pitch, about 3/4 of the way up. I end the turn with her, tucked behind an obstacle, ball within reach. I am not sure how it will play out. I have Ulfr jog back on toward Skatha. I can win this game in two activations. He wins the roll. Opts to go first....NOOOOOO. He charges Skatha with Grange, I spend my MoM to defensive stance. He KD's her, luckily i didn't have the ball, so it sticks. He then proceeds to push her about 4 inches away straight back from the ball, behind a impassible bunch of crates. I activate, i need MoM to do anything with her, I use Jaecar to generate MoM, pass the turn. He doesn't kill Fahad, leaves him on four boxes...So you're saying there's a chance! I activate Skatha, spend 1 MoM to stand, snowball to Ulfr (she was fully loaded) , 1 MoM, she collects the ball, drops an ice patch. Ulfr spends one to dodge 4" closer to the goal. I pass him the real ball and pass. He flippin kills Fahad with Windle, and had given him "Snack Break". 8-12. So, great game. The team played pretty well. At first I tried a smash mouth game, trying to take out my opponent's players. When that wasn't working I decided it was going to need to be a 3 goal game. I literally was one activation from winning, or at least kicking a 3rd goal attempt. I learned that to play against Farmers, you must remove the Harvest markers. I am not sold on an Ulfr Jaecar lineup, both need so much INF to do what you want them to do. I think Egret or Minx. Minx brings another free charge. I was happy during my 3rd game with this team. The first two games,(Morts, Alchemists) were miserable, fumbling around, and I lost both badly. This game, it felt good to have goals scored. Picture of kickoff by Seenah. The dice don't reflect actual score, or MoM. Damn that bear has a huge gap that needs to be filled. Paint is still a WIP.

    An Issue with Morticians

Thing is we lost 2 influence compared to season 2 and that hurts (1 on silence, 1 on puppet master). Key to unlock Morticians is not to overinvest in control plays. That's great being able to PM, lure, shut out and tucked enemy players every turn. But that's 8 inf that generated 0 momentum, 0 dmg and 0 VP. Not a good deal after all. The best thing in control plays is the threat of using them and realy triggering it only when it's worth it if You get what I mean. Spooks are hard team to play. Even exhausting one after all the nerfs. Yet they are not bad, just slightly under the curve. What I really need is 2 inf on Casket and Ghast and some kind of a buff for vGraves and his rats. Obs could also be more reliable in hiting his KD, just one column lower would be great. Scalpel needs some way of dealing with UM models other than legendary and more "dense" playbook (6 columns would be awesome). Just my 2 cents.

There's a lot of options. As a beginner, I'd suggest black - like you say it's quite forgiving, deepens colours a little and you get automatic shadows in the deeper areas. White is one I'd only suggest if you're going for a pale, vibrant colour scheme. My preferred option is a mid grey (with a top down light spray of pale grey), it serves as a balance of the two and gives more flexibility. The danger with a coloured basecoated like flesh is that it's tricky to paint over with some colours. Not always a problem, but worth keeping in mind if you want to do yellow, white, that kind of thing.
