    S3 games

I got 4 more games in yesterday against different opponents. I used the same team against each one, and had a mix of kicking and recieving Team: Honour Harmony Flint Marbles Brick Tower. Game 1. Quinn using pinvice. Score 12-0 to masons. Kicked off and he struggled to get around the double counter charge, in addition i kicked with harmony with the intent of retrieving the ball or counter scoring if he attenpted to score. Game 2. Dave milligan using blackheart. Score 12-7 to masons. Received and strong start by going 4-0 up. Blackheart managed ti get the ball and dodge about to score later on which was good to see.Killed avarice, greed and mascot and scored again. Missed 4x 4 dice passes in the game too. Fairly tough game but good fun. Game 3. Jay finnegan using fillet. Score 12-5 (i think) to masons. Counter charge again proved useful. He targeted brick early on. I won initiative and went into an engaged fillet in cover with honour, legendary and then linked with a fully loaded harmony and failed to kill her!! 10 attacks in total....that allowed fillet to do some magic, get some good results, legendary, heal and kill people. Game 4. Rich loxam using pinvice. Score 12-7 to masons. I received, was going really well, 4-1 up. Flint scored at what i thought was last activation when i was at +4mp from tap in..in reality we both had 1 model to activate left, this allowed him to kick out to mother who ran and burrowed away with the ball and threatened on goal next turn. My mistake otherwise flint would have gone first, retrieved ball and scored to win 12-1. Allowed him to get back in. Failed to kill pinvice on bad dice, he then kills harmony from full when def 5/1 (had deletion and tooled up, tac 4 due to crowding and cover, 4 attacks and hit 3x5 on 4 dice twice for mom 2 upto 4) and then scores tap in with mother. I win next turn at +1mp, honour goes first, monkey engaging hoist, she walks in and 2 shots him as low hp (+crowding was at tac 10) and regenerate, goes in and kills pinvice with remaining also crowded out to win (who was on 3 and had reanimate so 6hp). Thoughts.....brick and marbles counter charge are not easy to play around but positioning is key. Marbles push is awesome. Linked and sup strat and flint give so many options. Flint scored tap ins on every shot. Wingback on flint was fun with loved creature into a kd collossus...wrap for the mom push dodge twice. Tower heroic brilliant in right situation and the push back brilliant, only used defend ground once. He is more situational and I could have dropped him into fillet for something else....maybe minx. Now i want to try wrecker without brick and a more aggressive line up.

    My Fangtooth Mod!!

I promised I would post this. I don't normally do this, but I'm really proud of the results! It's Fangtooth having his brains eaten by our beloved mascot! I carved out his belly with a knife and drill and then made some intestines out of green stuff. I did the same thing with a few other places on his body. I wanted to make it look like the chains were holding him together. I then carved out a hole in his head and sculpted a little brain. I glued a raven on his shoulder and then used UHU glue to make a brain string. It's all turned out great and I'm happy with my first model modification.

I think Midas wants oKat, in which case you're looking at Smoke, Midas, mascot, Kat, VetKat, Vitriol, Calculus, Compound. At that point, I think you want Harry, as he works well with both captains--providing a fire aoe for Smoke (since you've no room for Mercury) and just being a stud teamed up with oKat for Midas. This is the 9 I'm running currently. A&G do look interesting, though. If you take them, then you'd want Mercury for Smoke. You could drop Kat and just play VetKat with both captains? So, Smoke, Midas, mascot, VetKat, Vitriol, Calculus, Compound, Mercury, A&G. Man, vKat just about auto takes out anyone A&G hit first if the opponent doesn't clear KD, doesn't he? I love oKat, but I would play this team.

This type of comment isn't helpful. Stave clearly needs something or he would be picked more often than maybe 1/5 of the games Brewers play. Giving Glut Mass won't break him and at the very least use up a furious charge from someone. I know that, I meant it tho that he should be base Def 4. That way he will have enough of a difference/better in a different way, to be picked more often. Neither of these changes breaks our Guild, but introduces good changes that help our less picked choices.

    S3 Chisel Advise please

I dunno. I feel that she's fighting Harmony (either version) for this slot and aside from the 2" melee she'd generally be losing it. Even with a better kick stat. Personally I feel like while some small tweaks might make her playable again she's in need of more of a dramatic rework. I think her character plays need replacing or some serious changes. Those along with her playbook are holding her back the most. Sadism makes little sense on a model that needs to ride close to death to be at its most effective, and it's rarely going to be worth the influence over spending a momentum to heal instead. Overall it's just a worse version of Life Drinker on a model that doesn't benefit from it as much. Feel My Pain is just pretty bad, the only time it really has any value is if they've declared a counter attack because it's the only time they can't just completely ignore it. It's just an easily avoidable "gotcha!" ability. And after you've got 4 hits or more it becomes tougher to justify activating it. On column 3 you'll often choose to take the 1DMG/GB result simply because it's momentous. But after that you're generally giving up 1 guaranteed damage for turning on FMP, which might net you 2 damage or more but is entirely dependant on what your opponent does. It's also completely useless if you're attacking a model that's already activated unless they counter attack, which you don't really want them to do because Chisel dies to a stiff breeze and so you'll probably be using her 2" melee to keep them out of melee. Really Chisels character plays boil down to: A self-heal on a model that doesn't want to be healed and a severely limited counter strike on a model that is too fragile to soak attacks.

    Ballista survives...somehow

My son (my most common opponent) was playing Hunters into Ballista Engineers and Ballista was up the field into Hunters' territory. He was badly wounded and snared so he was a 2+ to hit, as well as being ganged up on by 2 other models. Seenah charged him with his furious charge and I made the (probably useless) decision to defensive stance. Seenaah charged and my son rolled a fist full of dice. He rolled 8 2's and after armor and tough hide he ended up doing 2 points to Ballista. We both died a little.

It basically puts his defensive tech in line with flint. Although vet spigot has more health, they can both be defence 4 in the right situation. Plus with a free counter attack vet Spigot can get the ball away to safety if needed. To be fair it's not a terrible heroic to have, it's not times called for sure. But vet spigot offers the team an influence battery that you don't get anywhere else. All the other options want there influence and more. Infairness no other striker in the game can score a goal from 15" with 0 influence, that's a thing for sure. As a final point I will add the caveat that I am a huge OG spigot fan. Personally I think he is auto include, but I just wanted to point out some pro's on vet spigot.

I don't hate that lineup for Midas, but I think you've actually severely downgraded your Smoke lineup there? Assuming the standard Smoke becomes VKat/Merc/Calc/Vitriol (or maybe A&G in that last slot??), that feels like a sharp fall-off compared to running Harry. A lot of people seem to view Harry as a compromise for Smoke, but I actually think even just in his AoE he's a straight upgrade over Mercury. It costs less and is on a less-dead activation, and also Smoke often wants to put the initial fire AoE near people rather than on people, which means you don't care about the extra die the higher INF cost affords you (or Momentous Inspiration). Only plus on Mercury's side imo is the range. That's not to even mention the Hat aura. I guess I can see that lineup being an alternate Midas lineup but it feels like you're missing out on a lot in a 2Cap list without Harry.

I played a very similar line up and I found that Stoker never quite stacked up as a primary beater. The tac 5 hurts him badly. Once you roll in to high Def, arm or crowd outs, you will start seeing few net hits and Stoker will either fail to damage or fail to generate momentum. He does not hit 2 damage until 3 hits and it is non momentous, which in a Brewers side is not going to cut the mustard. If you fail to hit your momentous 3, you are only going to be shelling out non momentous damage results, which is going to see you starved for your heroic plays or going Second all game. But all the same, I have not really tried our beloved flaming helmet head as a secondary beater yet, so if someone does match him up with Hooper as bash bros, let me know how it rolls out.

    Harmony's animosity to Honour

I'm not familiar enough with the lore but i know that honour is crippled and coaching the farmers now and has been replaced as a captain. Most likely if theres animosity there her sister might have had something to do with it.

i think its because harry's molotov is better for smoke / vet kat then A&G's sole condition which is knockdown on avarisse. But otherwise A&G are star players

I bought my LV Open and GB Ticket on Dec 16th then entered the details of the events I wanted to sign up for on Dec 20th after which I received an automated email that said ' Thank you. We'll see you at the Las Vegas Open 2017! You will receive an email shortly confirming which events you are signed up for.' Whist I realize that it's holiday time I haven't received any confirmation and I only have until January 4th to cancel my Bolt Action @ LV Open ticket & get a refund but I don't want to do that until I get confirmation that I'm in the GB events. Can you let me know when I am likely to get confirmation? BTW - I wanted to send a message about this, along with my order number and email details, but the only email contact address is for Frontline Gaming and the forums do not permit messaging to 'Steamforged'

I have a Kick Off! set for teaching people to play. This assessment is right on the money. Kick Off! is a great product but I very much hope they continue to offer metal versions of the teams in the range. If they discontinue metal miniatures entirely there are people such as myself that will lose interest in the game and move on. I get that they're trying to break into a new market, but at the same time I've been kitbashing and modeling stuff since I was 10, I've spent upwards of $100 on a single model just buying pieces to convert them. Aesthetics are important to me in my hobby so if I'm not given nice toys to play with it's inevitable that the game will lose my interest.

I'm of the opinion that the main strength of brewers is in forcing the opponent to take the initiative. Pretty much every Brewer (with the exception of Spigot) has a form of defensive ability, which means they are pretty much universally immune to being killed in a single activation. In order to reasonably get the ball back from a Brewer lineup, or to get any good attacks in, you need to come into the middle of their team. Brewers also have a lot of stacking buffs themselves. In-faction access to Tooled Up, Commanding Aura, Dirty Knives, Esters' buffs, easy KDs, many TAC increases and short playbooks mean that Brewers have a very high ceiling for their damage output. Butchers, in comparison, have better early playbooks and more DEF reduction effects, but they wrap their playbooks relatively rarely since they don't have many TAC buffs and their playbooks are longer. They're also more vulnerable to counterattacks because they don't have as much access to KD compared to the Brewers. Tapper threatens to take enemies out and is resistant to counterattacks due to his 2" melee zone and easy KD. He requires a lot of effort to take out. Esters is resistant to control due to Gluttonous Mass, and forces the enemy to come in and engage on her terms with her ranged damage / debuffs. Scum is hard to pin down reliably and a serious damage threat. Quaff helps the team gang up on targets and increases odds of wrapping, while being an ineffective target via Loved Creature and not being worth many VPs. Friday helps focus targets down and can't be reliably attacked in return due to her high defensive stats. Mash sets up for the team with reach and Howzat, threatens goals and is hard to attack due to UM+2" melee. Spigot is the only killable model, so he stays back and provides buffs while threatening to take out overextending enemies with his crazy damage output. Stave isolates enemies with Lob Barrel and gets around enemy defensive abilities. Stoker has a strong defensive statline and is a huge problem for 1" melee characters because of his 2" push on first column, and makes them come to him (ranged damage) while threatening with his high damage output. Hooper is durable and does damage, while combining reach + low KD like Tapper to prevent counters, along with resistance to control in True Grit. Basically Brewers push you into a lose-lose situation where you are going to get dragged into a fight, but it's very difficult to start a fight on your own terms and fighting on the Brewers' terms gets you killed.
