First 6

Hello,

I need some advice.  I've got a Hunters team I've played a few times, and I'd like to also collect a Morticians team.  I know team swapping is not ideal at first (been playing mini games for 20 years) but it'll give me a fun painting project, and allow me to have another team to help introduce my buddies to the game (no local store).  That being said, I'd kind of like to just start with 6 or so models.  I know that probably won't last long (see 20 years thing above), but for my initial purchase, I'd like to get just a 6 (maybe 7) model team and that's it.

What do you all recommend is a good starting 6 to buy?   My considerations would be:

- Good models to learn Morticians "style" with

- Models that would serve me well (at least in S3) as my collection expands.

Any thoughts?

Ben

The starter box gives you Obulus Cosset and oGraves.  All of these players are viable in the current meta.  I'd round out the team with Dirge, Ghast and Silence for the original six morticians.  This gives you a good balance of control, offense and defensive abilities.  Silence isn't as much of an auto include as he was in season 2, so if there's another model you fancy, he'd be the one to take out for it.  If you want to include another model who only brings one influence, I'd switch out Ghast for him.  As strong as Ghast is, being down two influence will be pretty painful.

Agreed with the above except I'd go brainpan and memory over silence.

My only word of warning, demoing with morticians isn't great. They don't play any sort of traditional guildball and either carve up in demo.games or get carved up in inexperienced hands. I play them as my main team and demo with brewers and engineers.

Silence is a really great player but for a newer player i'd probably avoid him. his power level can be very very high if you can expect the enemy plan and used shut out and tucked and his fire AOE to throw a wrench into every single plan imaginable.

Brainpan and memory are good all rounders (can score, can do damage and make momentum). Memory really likes being tooled up. Other possible fits into the silence slot would be Avarisse and Greede or Mist.

that being said silence's utility goes up massively as you learn what the other player wants to do and how forcing their activation order will ruin it

I like to use the starter box plus dirge, Bonesaw with Brainpain and Memory. Bonesaw is an excellent striker and Brainpan and Memory are good for moving the ball or getting a Crowded Out bonuses. I agree that with the above posts that Silence is a great player. Once you know what the other team's players do he gives you the (potential) ability to control the activations of two models. Mattyg2787 is right, Morticians are not the best team to demo with because they play the opposing team as much as they play Guild Ball. I've been using the Butchers and the Fisherman to show people the game.

Thanks guys, I've got the starter set, so I've got Hunters, Masons, Brewers, and a Butcher's team to demo.  My brother wants engineers, so I'll probably grab them.  I want the Morts primarily for myself to play, so wondering what would be a good fit.  I appreciate the feedback.  Sounds like a good first 6, especially with my predilection for Brainpan and Memory, would be:

Obulous

Dirge

Cossett

Graves

Memory and Brainpan

Ghast or Bonesaw (maybe both)

My starting 6 hasn't been pure Morts - I've been using:

Obulus

Dirge

Cosset

Graves

Casket

Rage

I know it isn't the most competitive line up, and can be a little Inf hungry, but I'm having a lot of fun with it, and currently have a success rate of 66% with them!

i've played that exact list except with Brainpan instead of Rage. Graves and cosset are just such great models to bring. Casket i think is situationally an awesome pick i just haven't figured out when to bring him. Rage is the only one i never bring, not because i don't like him. Its just i find cosset does literally what he does, but better (due to having access to 2 damage buffs whereas rage gets access to only his own tooled up that costs his inf).  Plus her lure is great. So just because i think his role is already covered so well by another model i bring Mist or A&G as my union option. but just because i don't bring him doesnt mean i dont think hes good. 4 attacks for 1 inf!

so i'd say you've got a pretty good starting 6 really, i'd follow it up with models like Mist, BPM, Silence etc who can all round it out. Memory is a mean little thing when hes tooled up.

I just have a massive soft spot for Rage - he was the model that got me in to Guild Ball back in Season 1!

BP&M I have, and Silence is on his way.

I feel like I'm still figuring out BP&M - it's still early days with my Morts, I'm a Union and Alcs player mainly!
